Before entering the music industry, Melhado built his professional foundation as an auto mechanic, where he developed discipline, technical precision, and a strong work ethic that later shaped his approach to music production. His entrepreneurial instincts also led him to operate one of Jamaica’s independent Clarks footwear retail and distribution outlets, where he built a strong cultural presence within his community.

Having longstanding connections within Jamaica’s dancehall community, including with Vybz Kartel since the 1990s, Melhado’s transition into music production developed naturally through his involvement in the culture. Determined to build his own sound and creative platform, he began producing riddims and quickly gained recognition within Jamaica’s competitive dancehall landscape.

His breakout production, “Day Rave” (2019) by Vybz Kartel helped establish his reputation and introduced his distinctive production style to the dancehall community.

Since then, Droptop has built an extensive production catalogue and collaborated with internationally recognized artists including Nicki Minaj, Popcaan, Skeng, and Vybz Kartel. His catalogue continues to generate streaming activity across major global markets including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Sweden, Netherlands, Japan, Guyana, and Kenya, reflecting the growing international reach of Caribbean music.

Beyond the studio, Melhado represents a new generation of Jamaican music entrepreneurs, balancing creative work with business development through music production, branding, and catalogue growth.
