Paul Love, known as Jah Screw, is a singer and record producer born on February 9, 1955, in Greenwich Farm, Jamaica. He gained recognition in the 1980s and 1990s for his collaborations with artists like Barrington Levy, Barry Brown, and Ranking Joe. Jah Screw started his music career in the late 1970s as a selector on sound systems like Echo Vibration and King Stur-Gav Hi-Fi. By 1980, he became a record producer, initially working with Ranking Joe and co-founding the Sharp Axe label. This led to his own label, Time One Records, and successful releases with artists such as Earl 16, Dennis Brown, and Barry Brown.

In 1984, Jah Screw started producing in London, creating the rhythm for Barrington Levy’s hit “Under Mi Sensi” and later producing “Here I Come” in 1985. He continued working with Levy, producing albums and hits through the 1990s, including “Dancehall Rock” and “Living Dangerously.” 

Jah Screw has written, arranged, engineered and produced a lot of influential reggae music. He continued to be active as a producer until 1996, after which he said he “wasn’t getting the vibes to do any more production”. He has since been working on preserving his back-catalogue of productions.
